Symbols and Icons in front of the keys on Yamaha YPG 535

by John Bales

I cannot find an explanation of the icons and symbols printed on the metal running in front of the keyboard. I feel like an outsider peering in the window of a Masonic or Gnostic temple.

I lost the info on the screen. It lights up but no info.
I was pressing tabs and all of a sudden the screen went blank. I can still play the piano, but the rest is a mistery to me.

Icons
by: Dick Rector

Hello John,

Hahaha, no need to burn candles in front of your keyboard amigo.
The icons you mention represent mainly DRUM-VOICES and other PERCUSSION instruments.
I am not familiar with your board but almost every keyboard has the same.
Look under VOICES and find a drumkit.
Activate that one.
If you now press a key, let's say middle C, you will hear a drum-voice. Press C one octave higher and you will hear another drum-voice or a cowbell, a hand-clap or high-head. All the keys with these icons have another voice.
They can be used to play a drumsolo or to create styles or multipads.
Hope this clears it for you.
Have fun discovering these gadgets.
Regards
Dick

Symbols & Icons = YPG 535
by: Alfred

Dear John: Stop peering into temples! If you have an Owner's Manual, somewhere it would say "Fun Sounds" or something similar. Actually the keys immediately above the hieroglyphics should produce some interesting effects. I've had no reason to try with my PSR E 403, but my manual says to select VOICE then - if your unit has a Display - choose from it whatever pleases Pharaoh!
Please do me the favor of posting a follow-up comment if my explanation works with your unit. Other members of this Forum might learn something new. Thanks and good luck.

transfer songs
by: Dick Rector

Hi Cristine,

This is a very brief question! My only answer can be 'copy the files to a folder' but that doesn't help you much.
You have to give some more info what you want to do or what the problem is.

Regards
Dick

YPG vs DGX
by: Alfred

Dear Anonymous: You forgot to enter you name,so I'm addressing you as "Anonymous". Please identify yourself (first name will do), as I prefer to at least know to whom I am responding.
76 and 88 key units both use the prefix YPG as well as DGX. Except for some minor (and ignorable) technical differences they are the same. Just different labeling for sale in different markets. Hope this info helps you to make a good choice. Good luck.

Sustain on the Yamaha ypg-535

When I use the sustain pedal it does the opposite effect and cuts the notes short but when I dont press it the piano sustains the notes. is there a way to fix this to make the functions reverse.

Sustain Pedal Activation
by: Anonymous

Look under your foot pedal. If it's a Proline, just snap the switch in the opposite direction and everything will be fine.

re: sustain pedal issue
by: Gordon Ryan

If the pedal was not pressed during power-up, then the pedal may not be compatible with your keyboard. Should you need to change the pedal to another, I recommend the Yamaha FC-3 sustain pedal.

Pedal held w/power
by: Anonymous

Hello there. Most likely, the pedal was pressed when the keyboard was powering on. Turning the keyboard off and back on without pressing the pedal should fix the problem.

Harmonium Sound on YPG 535
by: Alfred

Dear Jay: Try the Accordion VOICE on your keyboard. It may sound close enough to the Harmonium, and if your unit has EFFECTS CONTROL you probably can "tweak" it to what you want. Post a comment in this Forum to let oTher participants know how you made out. Thanks and good luck.
