Yamaha PortaSound pc100

I would like to find out more about the Playcard System that is with the Yamaha PortaSound pc100 keyboard as we recently were given one but it doesn't have any instructions on how to use the Playcard part.

Thanks

Playcard information
by: Frans

You'll need a power supply that has positive in the center and negative on the outside. 12v 2A will do nicely.
There's no other cables needed.
This site ; www.crumblenet.co.uk/keyb/packdata/playcards.php

has information on the playcards. It used to also have an archive of samples made from the magstripe cards but it seems he was forced to take them offline. Too bad really because he had a way of the user playing the sample back through an amplifier and a telephone adapter/speaker mounted with a suction cup onto the PC-100 right above the cardreader and loading the songs that way instead of the fragile cards...
The user manual can be found online, try at download.yamaha.com. The technical manual can be found somewhere as well, for the tinkerer.

Need parts of PortaSound PC-100
by: Nida

I have the same problem/comment like Linda. I have the PortaSound PC-100 but I don't have the cords and parts that go with it. We moved and have only the PortaSound keyboard. Please let me know where I can buy them and what I need to play it. Also, where can I download the Manual for this? Thank you very much, will appreciate any help.

Need the power cords
by: Linda

I have the Portasound key board. But I don't have the cords that go to it. I am not sure what I am missing or what came with it when it was new. Does anyone know where I can buy them, or what exactly I need to run it? Where can I download the manual for this?
Thanks

Can you replace magnetic strip
by: Jb

I've used the cleaner card, but my unit will still not work.
The manual says don't use cleaning agents, thinner or benzine on strip. Is it possible to replace the magnetic strip

Source of Yamaha Playcards
by: Anonymous

eBay and similar sites are the only places you're likely to find Playcards for sale - but they are not common.

For people wondering how to use the system, the full User Manual for the PC-100 can be downloaded from Yamaha's web site!

None equal
by: Miles

I have never been able to find a product equal to this key board. Current key board have songs built into the firmware, this product had the play card to enter any song written to the play cards. I would buy a modern product if it was available and had a sound that was as good. Currently I can not find any new play cards, I wish they were available.

more about this
by: Miguel

You can use instead of "play" button the "free tempo" one. If you do that, it will play the rithm, but you will be able to play the song following the lights ;) it's nice to see your children trying to follow a song

take the card which has music notes and lyrics printed on side facing you and a magnetic strip on the back side of card. Take the card with the lyrics facing you, line the left side of card up with triangle symbol near right edge of slot on
keyboard.Slide gently but firmly without hesitation from right to left as if you were using an open slot style atm machine. You can leave the card "music stand" style sitting in the free part of the slot so you can see it and sing along. After sliding the card,go to the upper left of the keyboard panel to the grouping of (5?) buttons for the card system and hit play. If you are successfull you will see SYNCRO START light blink and music will play. You can control ARPEGIATOR VOLUME AND TEMPO as well as switch instrument sounds.MAKE SURE you have all volumes and tempo slider to the middle position to start.Cards in bad shape/mildew,bent may not play right.
