Yamaha Motif 7

by Stephen
(Houston, TX)

While transporting my Yamaha Motif 7 in my SUV, my amp. shifted and lid part way down the keyboard. breaking (3) black keys. I replaced the keys as per the service manual. When I reassembled the unit, I now do not get a signal from those keys. Is there something I missed in reassembly or could there have been further damage initially?

Thanks,
Stephen

Motif 7 Keys repair, Contacts
by: Stephen

Thanks Alfred. I was able to get a Yamaha Tech. who returned call to advise that the Motif 7 has metal contacts and to check for their being bent creating a space and not allowing connection as designed. Also, I was told that the PCB could have been cracked.
Fortunately, I did find that 3 metal Key contacts were bent, was able to straighten them carefully and that the PCB was not damaged.
All is working back to normal. Lot of work but a big relief!

Yamaha Motif 7 Keys
by: Alfred

Dear Stephen: This is only a guess on my part. If you followed the procedure of the Service Manual, and if there are rubber underlay pads (under the keys), it is possible that you have not seated these pads fully. They should "click" into place. Of course it may be (as you suggest) other damage caused by the accident. If after you check the pads you still have the problem, I recommend you leave the repair to a qualified technician in your area. Good luck and keep well.
