bup-mid extraction
by: Giancarlo

Hello, I was able to manually perform the extraction of midi songs from a .bup file. Last time I did it was some years ago. If you want you can send me the bup file to giancarlopetrarca@hotmail.com and I could try to perform the required operation.

Tool for converting BUP to Midi
by: Efim

Hello there, I've faced with this issue and created the tool that can convert .bup files to midi files.
Try it out on https://efim.dev/tools/bup2midi
The tool is free and didn't send anything through the web, your files will be converted on your device. I plan to modify the tool with additional features in future.

HELP
by: Anastasia

I have the same problem! I don't know what to do. Musicsoft downloader shows, that there is only 1 file in my piano (Yamaha YDP-S31) in .bup format.
What shall I do?
I can't even find a normal program to convert this file and my PC can't open it too.
If you know what to do, please answer.
I am so tired of. I have been looking for an answer for 6 months!

Re: Please help ...
by: Giancarlo

Hello,
you can send it to giancarlopetrarca@hotmail.com
The newer keybords generally allow to directly save midi files, therefore our issue is only related to the owners of old devices.
I'll do my best to retrieve the midi files from the .BUP.

Please help get my Midi from BUP
by: Anonymous

Hi Giancarlo

Where do I send the BUP to you?

Also it seems really crazy that Yamaha doesn't let me easily get my recorded songs from BUP. Mine is an old piano though...P85. Do the newer ones allow you to get your recorded songs painfree?

Re: still struggling...
by: Giancarlo

Hi Matt, you have to transfer the .BUP file from keyboard to PC, according to the instructions in the User's Manual.
After transferring this file, one could extract the single recorded midi files.
If you succeed to transfer the .BUP file on PC, then you can send it to me and I will be hopefully able to retrieve the recorder midi files. Explaining how to do this is quite complex.

Manual bup-midi conversion
by: Giancarlo

I learned how to perform the conversion manually, and I did it for my songs registered on P-140.
By having the midi file available, I could also change the voices (also setting the P140-hidden ones, like Choir).

how to extract .mid from .bup
by: Zubnoy_elf

1. Download bup2midi.exe (http://ge.tt/9JOwbkD?c)
2. Place .BUP file in the same folder as bup2midi.exe.
3. Rename your .BUP file to 'test.bup'.
4. Click bup2midi.exe.
5. Enjoy your midi's.

Source code is here: http://habrahabr.ru/blogs/php/81831/

PS
Every track in composition will be saved in separate file.

How to get your song files from keyboard
by: Anonymous

Here is another solution... Just hook up a jack to the keyboard for headphones and plug into line in on computer... Use any audio software. Remember when you plug in to the headphone jack you will not be able to hear so just watch you computer screen. Works great. Happy keyboarding

what PROGRAM to create/edit/save Registration Memory settings?
by: Anonymous

So, what software will allow a person to edit their .bup files? I'm helping a friend get her keyboard set up with a TON of saved voices and keyboard splits, etc., for a musical, but she's doing it all through the keyboard interface. It seems like it would be much, much faster if there was a computer application on her laptop to get all of these things set up, then just transfer it all to the keyboard.

Help!

Re: .BUP files
by: Like

The BUP files are yamaha's proprietary back up file format - probably a formatted simple memory dump or different regions.

VLC won't understand it since it expects a .BUP file to be a DVD .BUP file - a file that resides on DVDs.

These are two completely different animals.

Without any software to understand the file format, it's difficult to extract the songs from the backup file.

Music Downloader lets you back up the keybaord memory but it doesn't give you any ability to work with the backup contents.

How to open / play these .bup files?
by: Anonymous

Hi,
once I download my .bup file from the keyboard... which application should I use to open it? Which format is it in?

VLC and other players can't open it.
It is a backup file, OK, but, ¿how can I access the files within it?

Thanks a lot
