Yamaha DGX-505 - Midi connection to computer

I have the Yamaha DGX-505 (still works fine). I downloaded the latest driver for it. I turn on (first) the DGX-505; press the "PC" button (I don't know what the other references are [P1, P2, Local, etc. mean); have the cable already connected to my computer Windows 8.1;turn that on; it recognizes the DGX-505. When I go into my music program that does do midi notation, it doesn't seem to recognize the DGX-505. I play something on it , but it doesn't record it on the music program (Magix Music Maker 15). I don't know much about connection capability issues and "P1, P2, Local, etc.

Have you tried updating your drivers? There are free drivers available for download on yamaha's site. Just search for yamaha usb midi drivers on whatever is your favourite search engine and choose the one that fits your system. Install guide should be included in the download. You could also try uninstalling current drivers and do a fresh install of drivers cause updating can be a bit fickle at times, also if you on win, windows update sometimes forces their driver updates, so see if that maybe going on. I think you need both a midi (for well midi) and an audio cable (for external sound card) so.. Ye that. Check settings in your DAW. Other than that maybe some hardware port broken or a faulty cable maybe?
