Yamaha CVP-85A no sound. Similar to CVP-87A no sound

The fault on my Yamaha CVP-85A is that the panel lights come on but no sound from the speakers or headphones. The Speaker Protection Relay is not getting the coil voltage. I have tested the relay and it does work on the bench. The power amplifier module has Vcc and -Vcc and I can detect the LH and RH audio output at the stereo amp module on a digital volt meter set to VAC. Plugging in a CD player and applying a DC voltage to the coil to operated the relay will play music. I have changed all the capacitors on the PU board, but this did not cure the problem.

Once fixed I will replace all the caps on the DM board as many are leaking dielectric.

Can anyone suggest a PU fix or the root of the problem?

leaking caps have corroded the DM board
by: penfold42

This applies to both the 85 and 87 as they share the same PCB - just some parts are not fitted to the 85.

You cant just replace the leaking capacitors on the DM board. The corrosive leaked electrolyte has almost certainly eaten away at some PCB traces.

The /mute line comes from the CPU (IC1) and passes under two of these capacitors - C100 and C103 and you have damage to this trace. Mine was eaten in 3 places.

No sound - mute sgnal dead - CVP87A
by: Anonymous

Hi
I actually have exactly the same problem here with my CVP-87A. Have replaced all caps on the Proc board. All tests are fine, but no MUTE signal and therefore no sound at all.
Could you figure out, why the mute signal is missing? Would be thankful for any hint. Many thanks in advance

Might the mute function be implied? NEW
by: Mb94

Same problem here with a cvp-87a.
I suspect the mute function is responsible for this issue but cannot verify this.
If you have solved thi. Please let me know, sending a mail to pianum[at]free[dot]fr
Thanks!
