Yamaha PSR E323 Review

Yamaha PSR E323 Review

In this review we take a look at the Yamaha PSR E323 keyboard. This is a low-priced entry level keyboard. If you're looking for a keyboard for a child to play on or you're a beginner not looking for anything expensive at the moment, you may want to take a look at this one. It sells for only about $160 at leading online musical instrument stores. You may even be able to find a used one for much less. There's also the option of buying a "survival kit" along with your keyboard for a little more.

Yamaha PSR E323

The Yamaha PSRE323 keyboard comes with several features that makes it great for beginners. In particular, there's the Yamaha Education Suite. If you're learning to play the keyboard you will find this feature very useful. If you already have a music teacher, this is still a great supplement. The Yamaha Education Suite or Y.E.S. comes with many lessons that teach you how to play.

The Yamaha PSR E323 entry level keyboard consists of 61 touch sensitive keys. With Yamaha's Touch Response feature the keyboard responds like an acoustic piano. The harder you press the note, the louder the sound. This is a must for any keyboard you're buying.

I like the Portable Grand feature. One press of the Portable Grand button resets the entire keyboard to a stereo-sampled piano. This saves time and is very convenient, particularly when you're ready to practice.

This keyboard comes with MIDI In/Out making it easy to connect to a computer or other keyboard. Since it's General MIDI (GM) and XGlite compatibile, song data always plays back with the correct sounds.

For a keyboard of its price and class, the sounds are ok. There are almost 500 voices to choose from.

What is a keyboard without dual mode? The Yamaha PSR E323 entry level portable keyboard allows you to combine two voices across the keyboard at the same time. My favourite is naturally piano and strings. Split Mode allows you to select a different voice for each hand, for example piano for your right and bass for your left.

You should find this keyboard's two track recorder pretty handy.

Yamaha makes quality keyboard. But naturally the more you pay the better it gets. If you're looking to save money on a music keyboard, the Yamaha PSRE323 is certainly worth looking at.
