by Jason

I have the yamaha PSR-240 keyboard and although the power is on, no sound is playing, are the speakers broken or what could be a possible reason for having no sound?

Yamaha PSR 240 has no sound

I'm having the same problem - it's plugged in and the LCD display is working, but there is no sound. Did you find out what the problem was?

I also have the same problem.

I don't even hear any static click through the speakers when powering on or off.

I'm having the same problem. It may be related to the headphone plug. If there is a headphone plug in (or the plug has failed), the audio will not play through the speakers.

Checking it out now. I'll post what I find.

same problem with my Korg
by: Anonymous

I had the same problem with my Korg. I don't know anything about electronics but a Korg repair person wrote on my receipt "Repaired open layered traces." Apparently he told me this happens quite often when you don't use the keyboard for some time and it's left in a damp area. Looking at my circumstance he is exactly right, that is what happened. I left it in the basement where it's damp and I didn't use it for months. If you don't want to play, it's good just to put it on for a bit every once in awhile.

NOT A storage issue
by: Anonymous

Open layer traces on the PC board do not happen from storing the keyboard in your basement for a few months. How often you play the instrument has nothing to do with open layer traces either.

Most likely event is someone damaged the unit by accidental tug or trip over wires, or neglectful use (not a storage issue).

For me - used wrong power cord
by: Anonymous

Took my keyboard out of storage, plugged it in, lights went on, but no sounds - LCD display also flashed briefly but otherwise didn't work. Turned out I had plugged it in with an AC/DC Adapter (lost my original cord) -- when I tried an AC Adapter that I had lying around, this worked.

I got a reply from Yamaha to check if Midi was off. The unit had been switched off for some weeks but I switched it back on to check the Midi setting and... it works again! It has now been working fine for about six weeks. Not sure about the Midi setting, but worth checking anyway. Good luck to the rest of you.
