I unloaded my Yamaha Motif ES8 and powered it up and the display screen is only showing the top half and nothing on the bottom...any idea?

knob will fix this.
by: Tzzogg the caveman

just finished my last payment today on an MO8...
got it home, the sounds are great, but the screen is bright and horrific...before panic set in, i know that newer stuff has adjustment buttons. within 30 seconds i found it:
below the screen where the 10 grey buttons are...just to the left there's a round knob, sunken into the unit, just barely showing....you will notice a light-side/dark-side circle. you have found it.
turn right or left to lighten or darken. you are saved...no expensive replacements required.
Tzzogg the cavman, serving you better all these years.

Display Problem
by: Alfred

Dear Gulf Coast Beats: As you will have noticed, my post said "I'm not sure these two suggestions apply, but first try a Reset of your unit (with which I'm not familiar).
The Reset in some Yamaha units is done by holding down the last White key WHILE TURNING THE UNIT ON.
A back-to-factory-condition is done by holding down the last White key TOGETHER WITH THE LAST THREE BLACK KEYS, WHILE TURNING THE UNIT ON, but know that this second procedure will wipe out everything including all previous recordings.
It would be appreciated if you posted a comment letting the Forum know if you succeed, as we are all learning through these exchanges of messages.
Keep well and good luck.

Mine Too

My display screen has a problem too. My screen is actually 3/4 blank. How do you reset the keyboard? Have you found a solution?

Yamaha Motif ES8 Screen
by: Alfred

Dear Michael: Sorry, I should have researched your unit earlier. As you say, it is one of the Yamaha models which takes its power feed straight from the Wall Receptacle. This COULD mean that there is a built-in power supply which converts Ac to Dc, and if a component in the circuit of that internal power supply has failed you COULD expoerience the problem you mention. Such being the case you would be better off having the unit checked and repaired by a reputable (preferably a Yamaha-authorized)technician. In any case, you should try a Reset, then decide your next move. Good luck.

Adapter
by: Michael Ogden

I do not have an adapter, it is just a 3 prong plug directly from the wall. I will try a reset and let you know how that turns out...thanks

Yamaha MOTIF ES8 Screen blank
by: Alfred

Dear Michael: I' m not sure these two suggestions apply, but first try a Reset of your unit (with which I'm not familiar).

The second thing (if your unit uses an Adaptor for power),is to use a new Adaptor with the same OUTPUT SPECS. There is a possibility that the Secondary winding is defective and not supplying enough CURRENT to light up your Display.

Please do the favor of posting a follow-up message in this Forum if my suggestions work out. Your experience will benefit other members. Thanks, and good luck.
