Yamaha DGX-300 - Midi connection windows 10

I bought a Yamaha dgx-300 and wish to record to Cubase with it. I bought a midi to usb cable and while Cubase recognises it as a piano, doesn't recognise any change in voice styles.

The yamaha midi setup doesn't see any device and and auto quits.

I have no wish for it to act as a midi controller but thought choosing an on board voice would be recognised on out put. I'm completely new to all this so I recognise I'm probably doing something colossally stupid but any pointer would be appreciated.
