If you find the voices and electronic keyboard and pad sounds on your Yamaha DGX-660 to be outdated and want to improve the sound, there are several things you can consider:

1. Use External Sound Libraries: Many electronic keyboards, including the DGX-660, allow you to expand your sound library by connecting external sound sources. You can purchase additional sound libraries or sample packs compatible with your keyboard to access a wider range of sounds.

2. MIDI Connectivity: You can connect your DGX-660 to a computer via MIDI to use virtual instruments and software synthesizers. This can open up a vast world of high-quality and up-to-date sounds. There are many software options available, ranging from free to professional-grade.

3. Update Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your DGX-660. Sometimes, manufacturers release updates that include new sounds or improvements to existing ones.

4. Adjust the Settings: Spend time exploring the settings and options on your keyboard. You may be able to tweak the existing voices to make them sound more modern or to better suit your preferences.

5. Effects and Processing: The DGX-660 has a range of built-in effects and processing options. Experiment with these to enhance and modernize the sounds. You can add reverb, chorus, or other effects to change the character of the voices.

6. Layering and Splitting: The keyboard allows you to layer multiple voices and split the keyboard to play different voices on different parts of the keyboard. Experiment with combining voices to create more complex and modern sounds.

7. External Sound Modules: Consider connecting external sound modules or synthesizers to your DGX-660. This can significantly expand your sound palette and give you access to more contemporary sounds.

8. Explore User Communities: Look for online communities or forums where DGX-660 users share their custom sound settings or patches. You might find presets that suit your taste and can be loaded into your keyboard.

9. Professional Sound Editing: If you're comfortable with sound editing software, you can record the output of your DGX-660 and process the sounds externally to achieve the desired modern sound.

10. Consider Upgrading: If none of the above options provide the desired results, you might consider upgrading to a more advanced keyboard or synthesizer that offers a broader range of contemporary sounds and features.

Remember that sound preferences are highly subjective, and what sounds outdated to one person might be exactly what someone else is looking for. Experimentation and customization are key to getting the sound you want from your DGX-660.
