no sound from lower third of keys
by: lucylocket

I've been offered a cvp 96 which has been sitting in a garage for a while. Unfortunately the third of the keyboard is not working- no sound at all but the upper keys (from the f below middle c upwards, which appears to be the default split point?) work fine.

I've tried messing about changing the split point, and factory re-set but these have not fixed the issue. Would be grateful if you can offer any advice or send a schematic if you have one. thanks

Top white key also solved CVP 301 problem
by: Anonymous

I would just like to add that my CVP-301 suddenly stopped outputting sound through the speakers, although if I clicked the FUNCTION tab and set it to BOTH speakers and headphones "on", then the speakers worked. The headphones also worked on their own. By turning the piano off and turning it on again while depressing the top white key, the error was eliminated. Thanks!

CVP-96 AUDIO PROBLEMS
by: MARK J SCHACKNOW

I have a CVP-96 that had no sound on the left channel and white noise on the right channel. The problem ended up being (IC1)on the jacks/eq board, an 8 pin surface mount dual op-amp IC for the line input channels. Since I am a senior technician, I traced the problem down with my scope to find that the IC (UPC4570 or NTE 778SM) was in parallel with the L and R channels from the digital board. Removing the IC from the board solved my problem. (I CAN INSTALL THE IC LATER IF I WANT TO USE THE LINE INPUT JACKS.) This isn't a job for something that came from Radio Shack. Be careful and good luck. I also have the schematic on this model if anyone needs help. tubeman1@windstream.net

No Sound Yamaha Clavinova CVP 96
by: Alfred

Dear Joey: I believe the CVP 96 is a stand-up unit, and energized by a cord directly from the outlet? The problem COULD be 1) Defective Component in the iunternal circuitry, 2) If you used light-weight Headphones recently, did you remember to remove the Adaptor? 3) Try Initializing the keyboard by pressing the last white key WHILE turning the Unit ON. (Warning any previously recorded music will be erased). You should not attempt any DIY action other than (2 & 3), and have a qualified technician check the instrument if these do not resolve your problem. Good luck, and please keep us posted so we can all learn how you fared. Thanks.
