Yamaha S80 Splitting

by Patti
(Springfield MA)

Re: Yamaha S80 Why is this manual so confusing for something that should be so simple? I have read through it cover to cover. In the splitting section it doesn't tell you how to select 2 sounds to split the keyboard with. (at least not for a piano player playing keyboard) What I would like to do is simple. Basic piano in the left hand and brass fanfare in the right. I can get the split point but cant select the sounds. The manual discusses adding an arpeggiator and goes beyond what I'm looking to do. I'd appreciate any help. Thank You! Patti

Splitting S80
by: Alfred

Dear Patti: I don't have my notes handy at this moment. Watch for additional post tomorrow(11/16). I am not familiar with your unit, but if it is similar to the PSR series, I will have the answers for you. Re Yamaha Manuals, read my blog on keyboards posted earlier today.

Splitting S 80
by: Alfred

Dear Patti: Again, ON THE ASSUMPTION YOUR UNIT IS LIKE SOME PSR'S:

1) Use the SPLIT control, which should give you an "ideal" pre-selected combo of two VOICES.

2) If, however, you wish to select a combo with voices different from the two pre-selected "ideal" ones, press the Split Button holding it down for a "delayed release", then select the VOICES you want, one for the Left hand, and the other for the right.

3) Additionally, if your unit has an Accompaniment control, that control should automatically set a "standard" Split Point - usually at an "F#" key.

4) Finally, through the FUNCTION Control, you will be able to scroll to other different split points on your keyboard.

If and when you reach the point where you want info on using the Arpeggiator, post a
Message on this Forum and either someone or I will surely get back to you with details. Please respond to this message if the above info helps. Thanks.

Thanks Alfred

Thanks Alfred. I'll look into your responce but I believe the S80 is more complicated than that. I can set my split point and I am able to change the sounds in the bass but I cant get a different sound for the treble. I have tried working on this for many hours. If is was as easy as getting to the master keyboard split screen and selecting the sounds from there I would get it. The manual talks about assigning different midi channels to the two parts but doesnt include anything on selecting the sounds you want. I'm pretty fustrated. If I spenbt this time on the piano I could be half way through a Beethoven Sonata by now, lol. Thanks for your time. I'll see what questions I can answer on this site. Patti

S 80 Split
by: Alfred

Dear Patti: Yamaha maintains a page for Contact & Support for keyboard/piano owners. First, Google Yamaha's main site, then navigate your way to where there is a form for asking questions about whatever unit you happen to own. This should cut to the chase, giving you the procedures you need. Good luck.

maybe

Have you started from the brass sound before you made the split? Sometimes set the synth to the opposite starting sound then the split gives you what you want. I'll bet you are on a piano patch when you make the split right?

Unintelligible
by: "Mr. Bill" McAuliffe

The S08 manual is the most convoluded, frustrating piece of crap I've ever tried to understand. It presumes the premise that everyone who buys this keyboard already has a degree in synthesis. Referral after referral to to other pages makes me want to burn the thing. I think Yamaha OWES us a better version.
