YAMAHA PSR-E303 No power to Keyboard

by Kenneth
(Manila, Philippines)

Hi guys,

I have a Yamaha PSR-E303. I was just playing it fine last night and then it wouldn't turn on this morning.

It's Really sad. I checked the power supply and was suprised to see that it was giving of 17volts at all settings (oh, and yes the power supply is still working). And it's been with me for 3 years! I understand that the keyboard requires 12 volts. I don't know if there is a problem there since I never noticed an over-driven sound coming from speakers as I would expect from too much power.

I've had my fair share in electronics tinkering and is thinking of opening it up. Any suggestions on how to proceed would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Dead Yamaha PSR E 303
by: Alfred

Dear Kenneth: BEFORE you even think of opening up the unit, try a Partial Reset, by pressing the last white key WHILE TURNING THE UNIT ON. This may restore the instrument to working condition. If not, press the last white key PLUS last three black keys WHILE TURNING THE UNIT ON. As far as the Adaptor is concerned, a higher than expected DC Voltage is not uncommon so long as it's not say,100% higher. The keyboard can tolerate moderate higher voltages as you have noticed. One other point is to make sure the PLUG OF THE ADAPTOR IS CLEAN, and that you have not forgotten to REMOVE THE HEADPHONE ADAPTOR, which automatically cuts off the Speakers. If these simple actions do not cure the problem, my recommendation is to have a qualified technician check and repair the unit. Good luck.
