Yamaha PSR-6300

by Carlos Montenegro
(Tampa Fl. USA)

After a few years in storage seems to have affected the unit.
When I turn it ON, all the board from the middle to the left light up and the display 888 shows.
Sometimes when I hit the ON-OFF switch in certain way the display shows 1 or any other number and the same lights from the meddle to the left light up.
Any one with ideas?
Could be a bad switch or a bad cord. Where do I buy those? Where do I get a repair manual with part #.?
I want to fix it and give it to my grand kid.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Carlos

Similar problem with PSR-6300
by: Nadajnik

I have just got 6300 with similar problem! The upper part of the synth does NOT function! Sometimes, when I hit the power switch certain way - all lights go ON, but it still does NOT work!
I can get sound, but only one preset, which looks like piano/strings/organ mixture, but I can NOT make any changes!!!
I did clean all connectors bringing wires to all boards (three boards in main body and all in upper part) - but it did NOT help at all! All fuses are OK! I put some contact cleaner into the power switch, suspecting that there might be multipole connector with some of them not working properly, but without any success as well! I do not see any lithium battery and I am not sure, if there should be one??? Any suggestions????????
The keynboard is in excellent shape and I would like to bring it to life!!!
Thanks in advance for any tips! My e-mail address is mjr_nag@earthlink.net!

I ordered the power switch. It will arrive at the end of March from Japan. I'll post it whether it fix the problem or not.

Could it be the self test mode ?
by: Pericles

It looks like you have some key permanently making contact, in a way such that, when you turn the keyboard on, it thinks you are pressing one of these keys and enters the test mode (almost all Yamahas have this secret, some sound permanently sounds, and a number appears at the screen, for each different key or button you press. To enter this mode, turn keyboard on while pressing C1 or C6 in some models).
Try hitting a bit the extremes C1 or C6 before you turn keyboard on.
You may have to get the inner rubber contact sheet fixed.
It's difficult to find one, an it's expensive.

Keyboard Fix
by: Anonymous

I recently found one of these keyboards one the side of the road. When I turned it on the right half of the board flashed, and the keys played sounds (albeit stuck on one setting). Debug mode pretty much did the same thing.
I took the whole keyboard apart and buried underneath the circuit board for the console lid was a little bridge of connectors that was broken. A little soldering put it back together and now the keyboard works great.
