Yamaha PSR220 accompaniment/chords does not work

My son is learning keyboard on a never used 2nd hand Yamaha PSR220. It plays all the notes singually & plays the rythmns only of styles but does not play any chords when pressing notes below the split - neither single finger, fingered or full - except very ocassionally for no apparent reason having not pressed anything - and then it stops again. I have tried factory reset and it makes no difference.

Its not a problem! the keyboard is working fine. The split part doesn't play for some time when a style is selected. The keyboard analyzes the movement of the left hand and the left hand is (as usual)placed in the split part which you think is not working. And a little time later it starts playing, set to the style your son is playing and after it is set, the split part starts playing well.
