Yamaha PSR-225GM - No response when depressing keyboard keys

by Fred
(Colorado Springs, CO, USA)

I have a Yamaha PSR-225GM. It powers up, but I get no response from depressing the keyboard keys. The demo song works, the percussion background works, but nothing that uses the keyboard. Also, the keyboard in the LCD display does not respond when depressing a key or trying the chord accompaniment.

I have purchased the service manual, which is of little help since the only test sequence requires the keyboard to work for it to initiate. I have tighted all of the connectors throughout the unit, particularly those connecting to the keyboard and MKS5 (replacement for the MKS3) circuit board. I did check, and I have +5 volts entering the MKS5 board.

Any suggestions?

Where can I have a PSR-225Gm repaired in the Phoenix AZ area? I have one that has several "dead" keys. The unit has been played sparingly.

PSR 225 GM
by: Alfred

Dear Mary: If you have not already done so, contact a local keyboard dealer and enquire where they send defective units for repair. They normaally are good enough to supply such info.

Adaptor for PSR 225
by: Alfred

Dear Marc: You will need a PA 150. You should be able to find one on Ebay. As to working condition, buy a new one with option to return to Seller if it's a dud. Normally new ones work as soon as properly connected.

Battery Compartment Door
by: Alfred

Try Yamaha Parts Department (in USA at 1 800 940 6606). Between7:30 am and 5:00 pm Pacific time. They accept Visa, MasterCard, or American Express,
Parts can also be ordered directly at their site: www.yamaha24x7.com

Be sure to have the Model number of the product available so that accurate information can be provided.
Because the Battery Compartment is normally out-of-view, under the Keyboard, an alternative is to make the door out of stiff cardboard or plastic.

Size the door to fit over the compartment, but surrounding it by a marginallowance of about1/8”.

Glue one long side of the door to the keyboard with a strip of good quality tape, running from top to bottom. This acts as a "hinge".

Secure the other long side to the keyboard with a piece Velcro to allow for battery replacement.

Reset
by: Dick Rector

Hi Mark,

Usually a factory reset is done by holding down the most righthand key while powering up the keyboard.
Your manual will tell you if this is right as I am not familiar with your model. If you don't have a manual, go to:
www.yamaha.co.jp/manual/english/index.php
fill in the approp. box and you can download yours in PDF format.

Let us know if this works so other people can benefit from it.
