Yamaha PSR 2000

I am looking to buy a Yamaha PSR 2000 from ebay, but the vendor says there is a fault with it. Apparently it can be turned on but turns off straight away on its own. Any ideas?

You have a wonderful site with tons of information for Yamaha Keyboards. Great Job.
I'm hoping you or some of your followers can assist me. I urgently need to repair my PSR 2000 Yamaha Keyboard. The middle G key has gotten loose and floppy and I don't see any way I can get it to stay in place. I have limited electronics experience but can't figure this one out. CAN ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE!

Dear Jon: Here in the USA I enjoy buying from Ebay, BUT,I avoid buying any defective electronic items, in spite of the fact that I have tinkered (with no formal training)with electronics for over thirty years! My advice is to look for another same model for which the seller is honest enough to vouch as "in perfect working condition" Why buy a potential headache?!

Yamaha PSR 2000 diskdrive

After a power cut the diskdrive can not read any new or previous used floppy disks. Message (with unused but new floppy)'disk not formatted' or 'disk error'.
I have changed the drive for a brandnew one but that did not solve the problem. I can format in the PSR and copy from the USER area to the floppy and use it. When I take this floppy to my computer with also an almost new diskdrive for back-up purposes, it tells me 'disk not formatted, do you want to format now?'
Yes, but than it says '0 track bad, disk unusable'. Put this same floppy back in the PSR 2000 says 'disk error'.
Is it possible the disk-controller-chip is damaged by the power-surge. Is this chip situated on the board with numbers #2726 and X0129. If this is the case does anybody (an Angel)out there knows how to get a replacement board in Indonesia.
Please help as I am desperate and can't use my floppy's anymore.

For all those with soldering skills, that don't want to wait for an email reply here is the solution to install an additional Switch in your USB-Floppy-Emulator:

1. Cut the Pin 34 in the drive.
2. Solder a switch between Pin 10 and the FDC side of Pin 34 you've just cut (the side connecting to the Keyboard).
3. Mount the switch somewhere on the frontpanel of the Emulator.

Now that you have the switch installed just close the switch to change disks and open it again to signal the keyboard that the new disk was loaded!

I got my emulator on EBay from Virtual Village. Without the additional switch I was never able to change disks as the Keyboard is permanently accessing the Floppy drive and therefore the emulator wont allow a disk change!

Hello to all of you who are interested.

If you still have a keyboard with a floppydrive you can very easily replace that now for a USB-FLOPPY-EMULATOR.

A replacement for the old diskdrive with a new box, same size, same connections, but it uses a FLASH-DRIVE and holds 100 floppies.
I changed mine beginning of August and I am VERY happy with it.
No more floppies, no more moving parts and you can still do the same with your keyboard as before.

(Mokum is slang for Amsterdam for the not-knowers!)

Rob, hopefully no need to say BACKUP your floppy's NOW before you drive crashes and possible ruins them like it did with mine.

The drives Yamaha used for the models PSR1100-PSR2100 are:
ALPS DF354H and MITSUBISHI D359M3D the last one especial for the PSR2100.

If you know what a screwdriver looks like, you can do it. Piece of cake!

Glad to hear you solved your problem.
I have a PSR2100 and my floppy drive stars to make unhealthy sounds. So please pass me some info. Did you need a special type of drive or is it a genuine yamaha drive?
Just to have myself prepared in case my drive be killed in action.

Hallo Rob again and other people who are interested.
If you read back:
The new floppydrive (from a good brandname!)I have put in the PSR 2000 was NOT compatible with the keyboard. I thought they are all standard!
My technical guru has put another drive in, the same as Yamaha used to use, and for a very little money and within 24 hours I am back in business. Luckily it was not the controller-chip or the board.

I write in English because this information hopefully can be a benefit for others as well.
Many thanks for these addresses and I will keep them handy as I am sure others will do too.
As it happens, a local Yamaha Musicstore/school gave me yesterday the name and address of a technician not so far from my house who repairs al sort and brands of keyboards for the many musicians and entertainers here in Bali and also for this Yamaha-shop.
I have taken my PSR to him and burn some candles (of wierook) and pray he can repair my keyboard. I play only at home as a hobby but as we all know how much time, effort but also joy goes into creating a 'masterpiece' (something I do every day haha) I miss that big lump of silver colored plastic already.
Anyhow I will keep you informed on this site about the result.

I have the same problem with my newly bought Yamaha PSR S900. The screen suddenly went blank while playing it , when I turned it off and on again, it displayed [ SYSTEM BOOTER 1.01 at the top of the screen, and it displayed INSERT THE INSTALLER MEDIA at the bottom side of the screen. Please can somebody help me out. Am ready to pay the fees.
