Yamaha Motif ES 8 Review

Yamaha Motif ES8

Yamaha Motif ES8

Though this keybord plays great and the tone of the samples are amazing. Most real sounding piano I have found. I would never purchace one of these keybords again. It has been an absolut nightmare for me. These keybords don't seem to be very sturdy and in my opinion are not road worthy. I have moved it minimally for a couple of gigs and that's it I mostly stays in my studo but The display keeps busting ( something to do with the ribbon cable coming loose I think). It is currently in the shop again. and yes I have a flight case which I use to transport it with. This is a real pain as it cost a hundred bucks at least just to get it looked at every time. plus I at least two weeks of loss of use each time. I have never had any problems like this with my korg. It can actually take a beating I actually dropped it once and it was fine thought it would be busted. Never dropped the motif always baby'ed it but it breaks. I do not suggest that this board be moved period.

-a not so happy owner of the Yamaha motif

Yamaha Motif Response

Yeah Yamaha in general has never been good for reliability. The CS80 their first big poly synth with a price tag of $7000.00,,,if it had a problem electrically then the whole system would go out with it's 10 miles of circuitry. Very cool looking though! Stephen Stills old CS 80 is collecting dust in my closet. I had a CP30 portable piano back in the day...looked great..toured with it...but yes again Yamaha...had a bad problem with shuting off in the middle of gigs and of course no tech good find the problem. Would always recomend ROLAND as their gear has been every where with me and never broken down!!!!!
