Yamaha DGX-530 Display not working

I just bought new Yamaha DGX-530 few days ago and already display is gone. Keyboard powers up, display backlight turns on, but that's about it - no information is displayed. Everything else works fine and this is not a contrast issue. I've search internet and found that I'm not the only one with this problem but did not find any solution.

I hate the idea of returning the keybord to shop, as i just want to play :)

Display not working properly
by: Paul Szafrap

I also just got my DGX-530...It is a great keyboard for the money but I am concerned about the LCD display not working dependably. It is intermittent which is maddening as it simply becomes unreadable in the middle of a song and then will not reset itself when rebooting it. I find later when I turn it on, it might be just fine for a while again. Suggestions??? I would like for Yamaha to know that there are several of us out there so that they might address the problem.

Try this
by: Anonymous

This happened to me too. Try pressing the "exit" button to the right of the screen. In the owner's manual it's on page 66. I think it should be in the troubleshooting section too.

DGX 530 & YPG 535
by: Alfred

Dear C: Keyboards in the 76 and 88 keys category use the prefix DGX as well as YPG. Except for some minor ignorable technical differences they are the same. They are just different labeling which Yamaha uses to sell these electronic keyboards in different markets. For instance, you will find DGX in the UK. and YPG in the US, and Numbers may differ slightly as in following examples: DGX 630 = YPG-635 (Model number up by 5)
DGX 620 = YPG-625,DGX-520 = YPG-525 and so on...
‘IN ITS ‘INFINITE WISDOM’ YAMAHA’S CODING SYSTEM SOMETIMES USES COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PREFIXES FOR “ONE-AND-THE-SAME MODEL!!!!!
As to "Stage Performance", you must know that ambient acoustics make any performance a very subjective matter. Your ears will not hear the same reproduced sounds as another person's, even though you are both listening to the same performance. Hope this helps.

HARDWARE MIDI PORT FOR Yamaha DGX 530 / 630
by: Roman (Czech)

Hi Ingmar, I have a DGX630 with same problem as you (I want drive TC Helicon VoiceLive vocal hramonizer from keyboard - for TC is necessary know to current chord for harmonizig voice thru mic) I read this page: http://www.justanswer.com/questions/1pl1x-i-have-a-yamaha-dgx-505-and-it-works-fine-except-that-i-now , whrere described solution from "Steve the Electronics Guru", where connect MIDI/USB interface for PC (i.e. from M-AUDIO) to "TO HOST" port of keyboard thru USB A female to B male adaptor. I check this (M-AUDIO MIDISPORT 1x1 and DGX630), but this is NOT functional. I thinking for this is no solution, therefore on "TO HOST" connector is not power supply, but power consument(without consideration of character HOST - DEVICE ), and two DEVICE - DEVICE cannot comunicate. Maybe DGX505 from this page another firmware or connetions, problably this page is joke. I you find any solution (other than loopback thru computer with USB and soundcard), please write. Hi Roman.

PC to Yamaha DGX-530 communication......

by Tim Hart
(Bolingbrook)

We just bought the Yamaha DGX-530 from Fry's and tried to connect to pc for the transfer of midi files to the keyboard. I followed directions for installing drivers and software. The computer recognizes the presence of the instrument but the MusicSoft version 5.6 program CANNOT make a connection between the two. All software is up to date.
Pc is Windows 7. I tried the MusicSoft program under Win7 and under Vista service pack 2 compatibility mode. I have authorization. I tried to install a .mid file directly to a usb thumb drive formatted by the keyboard. From the keyboard I can see the file but only for deletion. It does not show up for loading.
Connection check IN shows portable grand-1, OUT shows Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth..., Portable Grand-1, and Microsoft MIDI Mapper.
I select each of these to "Judge" and fail all three.

I saw a mention to make sure file transfer is turned on under keyboard settings but could NOT find that in the keyboard menu. PC is 32 bit by the way.

HELP !!!!!!!

USB File transfer is actually ok
by: Tim....

I actually have successfully transferred a .mid file using the formatted usb thumb drive. I'll have to try it again a couple of times to figure out how I did it but I know that works. Still can't get the computer to connect with the keyboard though..

Yamaha DGX-530 just went dead after 5 mins of playing and it won't turn on anymore

I just bought a Yamaha DGX-530 portable grand piano. I hooked everything up as it was suppose to be. I turned it on and it worked for 5 minutes and then ALL OF A SUDDEN it just turn off. Everything went off. I thought maybe the outlet was bad so I changed outlets but that still didn't work! Has anyone else had this problem? Is it the A/C adapter or is it the piano itself that's bad?

Just happened to me too ..
by: Mark

Hello, I just received the 530 today after ordering online. It turns out I had it on for the same, about 5 - 10 minutes, when I wanted to hear some different voices ...

As soon as I clicked the voices button the unit just shut down and it will not power on any more.

I assume it's a defective unit and I'm sure I'm going to have a heck of a time working something out with the seller to get an exchange or money back.

As a guitar player for 22 years who is looking to learn the piano, it makes me wonder why I went against my motto when it comes to my instrument purchases ...

"A jack of all trades is a master of NOTHING."

I've learned the hard way to always follow my own advice. No matter how good the deal.

Keep playin'

Dear anonymous": On the assumption you overlooked identifying yourself and that the unit is still under warranty, and to SAVE YOU UNNECESSARY GRIEF,consider returning it for a NEW REPLACEMENT ASAP! The description given points to several possible failures, and you should not be saddled with a defective unit. Come back when the unit is replaced and you have any questions or comments which arise while you are having fun playing it. Thanks for contacting us. Good luck.

Yamaha DGX-530 Touch sensitivity

Hello, I have had my Yamaha DGX-530 for a few months now and it has worked great! But just today I was going to play on it and some keys won't work on touch sensitivity. The ones that don't work on TS are as follows: Every F# and every C. I am really bummed about this, considering how much I love this piano. Please help!

Dear Basil: I have the impression you believe this Forum is connected in some way to the Yamaha Corp. Unfortunately we are only a meeting place for friendly discussions among guys like you and me. THIS FORUM IS NOT AN ARM OF THE YAMAHA CORP.
and I would check with Sam's to see if their sales records reflect the sale and also if they will accept an exchange for a new unit. I hope you are successful. Keep well.

Dear Basil: In reviewing my earlier posts, if your unit is still under warranty (one year), take it back to the store for exchange for a new one and check it there to ensure it works!

Dear Basil: Glad to learn of your good news. If your unit is still under warranty have the store where you bought it acknowledge (in writing) that the problem existed in case it rears its ugly head again. One other thing. This Forum is NOT an arm of the Yamaha Corp. Rather, it is a friendly meeting place for guys like you and me to exchange experiences re our electronic pianos/keyboards. Now that you know how to reach us, come back often with questions/comments. Good luck.
