Yamaha DGX500 Styles+Voices+Midi files

by (Pastor)Chris
(Tennessee, USA)

Can anyone tell me where I can find any free styeles, voices or midi files for the above. I am particularly interested in Contemporary Christian styles/files, etc.

I have found some, such as Higherpraise.com (great site) but they never seem to add to their library files anymore.

Any help would be more than just appreciated.

Thanks.

Be as blessed by the Lord as only He able to bless you.

(Pastor) Chris.

Recording and playing recorded floppy discs on Keyboard Yamaha dgx-500

by Chris
(Sterling, VA)

I have a Yamaha DGX-500. I've learned how to record my songs onto the Keyboard's memory, however, there's only five memory "users", so now I want to record songs using the floppy disc insert on the keyboard. I tried and it's really confusing. Any help on how to use that? The floppy disc recording thingy on the keyboard?? thanks a million!

DGX floppy to CD?
by: M.C.

once recorded on the floppy, can I then burn to a CD? I'm talking about my DGX500, which, by the way, I'd like to sell for a keyboard with more weight in its keys, and less in the cabinet - like a 'slim-line'version? there must be one out there! I don't mind the weight in carrying, but would prefer that to be mostly in the keys! any ideas? Thanks

recording?
by: Dick Rector

Hi Chris,

Why don't you safe the recorded songs from the 'user area' to your floppies?
That way the storage is unlimited.
The other way around is to load the songs from floppy into the user area.
Alas you are limited to only a few songs at the time.

Dick

Yamaha DGX-500 No sound when playing from keyboard

by Dick
(Los Gatos, CA USA)

I suspect my problem is related to MIDI local control being off; but I can't turn it on. Whenever I turn power on, I get the "pop" in the local speakers but whenever I try to move the left Overall button down to MIDI to turn on local control nothing happens except the disk light starts blinking and there is no disk inserted.

Other Yamaha keyboards have a method of doing a factory reset; but I can't find instructions to do that for the DGX-500. I've tried the instructions for another keyboard which involved holding the + and - keys down while turning power on; but that doesn't seem to do anything.

Yamaha DGX-500 with Reason or Audacity?

by Jackswan
(Charlotte, NC)

I recently recieved a DGX-500 as a gift w/o a manual, or the cd w/ driver. I searched this forum for places w/ driver but the suggested links are broken.

I am basically trying to figure out, if it is possible to use as a midi-controller thru reason? I have a m-audio midisport 1x1, not sure what all I need?

Thank you.

Keyboard Manual
by: Dick Rector

Hi,

For a manual in pdf-format go to:
yamaha.co.jp/manual/english/index.php

For drivers go to:
www.global.yamaha.comp/download/index

For a midiconnection to your computer you need 2 midicables in-out and the correct connections on your computer and software.

Free Midi + Styles, Interfaces+ Editing Softeware.
by: (Pastor) Chris

There are some sites out there which offer freebies. I will post another answer with some links that i have, but, for now, I recommend a site called www.higherpraise.com.
It is a Christian based site but it can give you some good solid midi files, plus many other links to other sites which offer free files.

There is a site which specifically offers Yamaha styles and many midi file downloads and I will post again with this link also.

Some midi files online might require some editing and you will need some kind of studio software to get away from the "plinky-plonk" sounds that some files download as.

I have found a very inexpensive software which is also great for the beginner, called Music Creator. I am using version 3 and it is more than capable of producing/editing your own or downloaded files into some very "professional-sounding"results. There is also a free online group which you can join (free) and ask whatever questions you need answered. They are very supportive.

You will need an interface and the best i have found is the Yamaha UX 16. It just fits right in and you can get up and running in minutes. I have tried others but they do not work as well.

I pray that some, if not all of this, will help someone.

Jesus Is Lord!

Power Adaptor for Yamaha DGX 500
by: Alfred

Dear Anonymous: The PA 5D is the Adaptor for the DGX 500. I'm not a mean-spirited individual, but I normally make it a practice to ignore any and all submittals made by members who fail to ID themselves (first name or code name is all I require), so do two things, always identify yourself, and once you buy the Adaptor, come back and participate in this Forum with further questions or comments. You will always be welcome. and I'll be one of the first to help if I can. P.S.: Try yamaha.com (Parts Dept)to acquire the adaptor, and if they don't have it, try Ebay. The specs for the adaptor are: Input 110 vac Output 12 vdc 1.5 amp. The output is the important factor. Have fun with your DGX 500.

Yamaha DGX 500
by: Alfred

Dear John: The problem MAY be a defective or just dirty rubber pad under the offending key. If the latter, here's a suggestion. Give the perimeter of the key short strong bursts of compressed air (can type), followed by a strong vacuuming around its perimeter. If that does not cure the problem, it's likely the pad(s) has to be replaced. The job is not a DIY project and for a local repair shop you may choose to contact

I just bought a used Yamaha DGX-500 and it came with some floppy discs with music on them. I tried inserting them into the disc drive and playing them back but it wont work. It just says, CUE format? and in the instructions it says to click execute and then yes which should format the disc. However, when I do that, it says error. None of the discs I was provided with will play back or do anything. Help??!

FLOPPY DISC DRIVE?
by: Anonymous

are you getting edits or prompts? If so it is not your disc drive. You will need to redownload songs onto your floppy from your computer that is specified to your yamaha DGX-500. Sometimes that happens when they are scanned, like a camera disc. They are erased or deleted. If everything else works great. You got a GREAT Keyboard...It has all the Bells and Whistles!! ENJOY!!

Yamaha DGX 500 Display
by: Alfred

Dear Slubia: If you have been using an Adaptor to power your DGX, the problem you are having may be as simple as a defect (in the adaptor) which results in a lesser current delivery. You can try replacing it. This is only ONE possibility. If a new Adaptor does not remedy the problem, I recommend you seek technical help. Yamaha has a site for this at
http://yamaha.com/yamahavgn/CDA/Service/ServicerLocator/0,,VNM%3DLIVE,00.html

Have Model and Serial number at hand, and explain your problem. Hope this helps you. Thank you for contacting our Forum. Come back as often as you wish with new questions/comments. You are always welcome. Good luck.

recording to make CD
by: Dick Rector

Hi Katie,

I have answered this question many times on this forum. Send me your email-address and I will send you a step by step guide how to do that.
It is fun and easy and you need only a simple cable and to download a free NoNonsense program.
The file contains a few sample pictures and is too large to put on the forum.
DON'T give your address here or you will get a lot of rubbish.
