Yamaha DGX 202 and external speakers

Can I hook up an external speaker to my son's Yamaha DGX-202 Keyboard? We use it at a family reunion every year but the keyboard it not loud enough. If it is capable, what does anyone suggest?

The dgx-202 has only about 6 watts per channel so if you hooked up the best speakers in the world, it wouldn't be enough for your purposes.
You would be better off to connect an external amplifier to the keyboard through the headphone jack and then to the speakers.
This way you can make it loud enough to hear in another county.
There is also the added advantage of being able to use a separate microphone with the amp. for public address announcements.
Do not turn the Yamaha volume all of the way up because it may cause distortion in the amplified signal.
Turn it up half way or a little more and then use the power of the amplifier to boost it up more.
