Yamaha Clavinova CLP-250 Foot Pedal.

by David

Just bought an old Yamaha Clavinova CLP-250 for my son to learn piano. I just got the keyboard... do you know if the keyboard can operate with a foot pedal? And if so, where does it plug in?

Thanks.

Clavinova Pedal

Yamaha uses a PS-2 connector for the pedals. It seems to be a proprietary connector for the clavinova.

Yamaha foot pedals do not use conventional 1/4" jacks. The pedal board plugs into the underside of the keyboard on the right side using it's own type of connector.

I just bought a Yamaha CLP 250 and have looked through the unit without finding a space for inserting a sustain pedal.
Can anyone help me out as playing without a sustain pedal makes the sound dull and uninteresting.
Thanks

Foot Pedal for CLP 250
by: Alfred

Dear David: I take it you are referring to the Sustain Pedal. Usually on the rear panel of the keyboard there are Jacks for insertion of accessories you may wish to use. One of these Jacks should say "PEDAL" or "SUSTAIN". I am not familiar with your Unit. Examine it for a panel with apertures for various Plugs. If you are going to use a Sustain Pedal, be sure its Plug is inserted BEFORE turning ON the Unit, and DO NOT PRESS the Pedal until you are ready to play. Your Unit may have a built-in Sensor which detects the correct Polaruty of the Pedal and pressing it before energizing the keyboard may cause a reverse polarity situation where the Pedal works in reverse.
