Touch response not working on some keys....

by Tshepo
(South Africa)

After successful performance over the years, My Yamaha DGX 305, suddenly has a malfunction:

The "TOUCH response" function does not apply anymore to all keys...The B flat keys and the E keys do not respond to the TOUCH function on the keyboard. This problem suddenly started when I switched on the DGX 305 this morning.

I assume it is an internal software malfunction since ALL the B flat keys and the E keys do not respond to the TOUCH function. When one presses the Bflat for example, it becomes louder than other keys that are successfully subject to the TOUCH response.

Please advice or refer me to the nearest dealer in South Africa to assist me.

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Tshepo

contact pads??
by: Dick Rector

Hi Tshepo,

I'm guessing of course but it sounds very much like a broken or dirty underlay contact-pad. All the keys of the same kind follow the same route to the sound-processor. So if one contact is dead the others will have the same problem.

If you want more detailed info for changing a contact-pad, this is for a PSR3000 but it is more or less the same for most keyboards:

Unless you are skilled and not scared to open the keyboard, it is not really a DIY job.

Dick

Touch response not working on some keys....
by: Tshepo

Hi! Dick,

Thank you for being kind enough to advice on the challenge I have.

I have contacted Alan in the hope that he would know exactly what the cause of the problem is.

Your input certainly widened my knowledge about internal process of the keyboard.

Cheers,

Touch response not working on some keys...Resolved!
by: Tshepo

Hi!Besides the fact that I prayed because I had work to do...this is what I've done to resolve the problem...

1.I used the pump of my inflatable bed to blow away the dust around the inaccessible parts e.g.underneath the keys and everywhere using the any socket/hole I can find...I switched it on,but it did not work...I suddenly decided to deactivate the touch button and played all keys, thereafter did I reactivate the touch button and to my surprise,it was back to normal...every key was now subject to "touch" function.

Regards,
Tshepo

G and C#
by: John

Hi! I seem to be experiencing the same problem, also with a tritone, which is very unusual. The notes G and C# on my keyboard do the same thing. They sing more loudly than all the others, even when pressed lightly. What should I do?

Touch response not working on some keys....
by: Anonymous

Hi!

Play it with Touch response deactivated (Play all keys, like when you do chords. And try, it again. But first, blow the dust away... if your keyboard is not under warranty, open it and use an inflatable pump or something similar to blow away the web dust inside.

Don't lose hope, it will work. Mine has been working since then.
