Stuck key - Yamjaha S08

by Shane
(San Diego)

I have a Yamaha SO8. My middle D key gets stuck and I would like to know how I can fix it. I'm not sure if it just needs to be cleaned or if it is out of allignment or what. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanns!

Stuck Key SO8
by: Anonymous

Dear Shane: If the key looks OK/aligned and its touch feels normal, mechanical damage is unlikely.
Causes of Sticking can be from paper clips, scraps of paper, sugared pop, dust build-up, slightly swollen and/or warped keys. Try (strong) vacuuming the troubled key to dislodge any debris. If no improvement is noticed, try short blasts of compressed air (Can type). This could (UNLIKELY) cause additional problems if there is a lot of buildup of dust under the keyboard, spreading it to other areas, but if it works it would save disassembly of the keyboard.
After using compressed air and vacuuming, sometimes gently “injecting” perimeter of affected key with minute puffs of talcum serves as a ‘lubricant’. Please favor the Forum with a post if my suggestion works, and cover your unit when not playing it. We all want to learn from your experience. Thanks and good luck.
