Sticking Key on Motif

by David
(NY, NY)

The D above middle C on my Yamaha Motif sticks. Is there a quick fix for the problem or do I need to have it serviced? Thanks.

Sticking Motif Keys
by: Chris

I've learned that when Yamaha originally came out with Motif that they used a grease that would erode the end of the key. For a while they would replace the key bed for free. However, if you bought your Motif used it's possible that Yamaha will tell you that it's already been repaired once (by the previous owner). That's what happened to me. I'm very frustrated with Yamaha right now. The keyboard is simply not usable when the keys stick. It would be cheaper to buy a new keyboard than pay to have it fixed. So, be very careful and persistent. Many keyboard repair shops have extra keys that they will sell for cheap ($5). If you go through Yamaha it could cost as much as $30 per key.
