Spilled Milk Under Keys

by Gretchen
(Westminster, CO)

Hello, a few weeks ago I spilled a small glass of milk on my DGX-620 keyboard. Maybe 4-5 oz. I wiped as much as I could up, and then tried to take a wet rag and clean it even more thoroughly. I also took a shop vac and tried to vacuum out as much liquid as I could, but when I checked the canister afterwards, I didn't find any liquid in the vacuum. Anyway, then I put a fan on the keyboard to try to dry it out. It's now a few weeks later and it smells like sour milk. :-( No problems with the keys not playing or anything, so I assume that the milk just puddled inside the keyboard and is just dried up. To remove the smell, I would like to remove the keyboard from the base and then turn it upside down and try to remove the bottom of the keyboard and see if I can do a more thorough cleaning underneath the keys themselves. Is this a bad idea? Any tips? Has anyone done this and do they know which screws I need to unscrew on the bottom? (There seem to be a lot of screws.)

BTW, YES, I did learn my lesson and will NEVER have beverages near the keyboard again! AAHHH!

Thanks for any suggestions/advice/information anyone might have.

I have a dgx 205, it takes a lot of screws to get it apart but once the top is off its easy. The keys come out in groups of 4 or 6 so you can take them and wash them it the kitchen sink then dry thourghly before re installing. The little rubber contact strips can also be washed and dried, best if you have and air compressor to be sure there is no water left in cavitys. You can wipe the contact strip with a damp cloth to remove milk if any is found. be sure no batteries are in it and its umplugged.
