Settings for Recording into Garage Band

How do I hook my Yamaha P250 up to my MacBook? I want to be able to record in Garage Band, and I have the USB cable, but I don't know what settings the keyboard has to be on to transmit to the computer. Right now the computer doesn't recognise that anything is even plugged in.

Same problem
by: MD

I have the same problem trying to connect Clavinovas CVP to MacBook for my kids. Reading through the CVP manual I believe that I need to change settings on the CVP so that MacBook become the MIDI Host/Controller. The manual does not say exactly what setting to make, so if there is any one who has done in before please help. Otherwise, trial and error - how long is that going to take??

Same problem! So frustrating...
by: Greta

I've downloaded the most current drivers, messed with every setting I can find and I cannot get my MacBook OS 10 to hear my Yamaha P80 through the MIDI to USB cable I purchased from Yamaha.

Since the expectation I'd be able to do this was a factor in purchasing both the keyboard and the Mac, I'm really frustrated.

MacBook and YPG-635
by: Jim

I have a YPG-635 and hooked it up to my MacBook and nothing happens. All I find is others with the same problem no solutions. Thought my addition might help get a response.

try this - not kidding
by: Greta

A friend who has done lots of sound tech stuff took a look at this for me ages ago and got this working for me. This was one crucial point.

Take the cable plug on the UX16 that is embossed "IN" . Push this into the outlet on the keyboard that is labelled "MIDI OUT". Put the plug embossed with "OUT" into the outlet labelled "MIDI IN".

Apparently, this is the point in the connections where the narrative perspective changes. I'd assumed this happened farther downstream - say, within the computer, or even midway through the connector cable. (Just ignore that bit if it doesn't make sense to you.)

I did finally get mine working, so if this is not all you need, let me know and I'll try to reconstruct what else was involved. I think this was the big thing, though.
