Problem with E-Flat and A Keys in all octaves

by Philip Westin
(Winchester, CA USA)

I have a Yamaha DGX-505 keyboard that I connect with a Mac Pro for composing. In the past few months, the E-flat and A keys stop working in all octaves. If I jiggle the keyboard or move it around a little, both notes usually resume playing. This is happening with greater frequency in the past few weeks. Can you recommend something to fix this?

contact pads??
by: Dick Rector

Hi Philip,

Sounds really like a broken or damaged underlay-contact-pad if all the keys of the same kind are giving the problem.

Depending how handy you are but not really a DIY job to replace one (or all). Usually every octave has his own pad but all the keys of the same sort are following the same 'route' to the sound-processor that's why if one pad is broken the other keys also don't do what they should do.
Go to PSRTUTORIAL.COM - FORUM - PSR3000 and you can find a very good article with pictures how to change the pad(s).
At least you get an impression of the job.

A good (VERY CAREFULLY) clean of the contacts with cleaning alcohol sometimes does it.

same problem
by: Anonymous

I have had the same problem with the exact same keys. I also searched the internet for this problem and found someone else with the exact same problem, the exact same keys.

My keyboard, and the internet posters keyboard was the DGX 220.

I got tired of this and just bought a new keyboard, teh YPG 235, which I believe is the same as the DGX 225.

I almost bought a different brand because of this problem. But I like the features on my keyboard so much, so I just bought another one. I might end up getting burnt if the exact same problem happens again.

I don't know of any fixes, but know that this is a problem others have had.

E flat and A stop working for me too on all octives. This makes no sense and I'm very disappointed in Yamaha's product. I have a YPG 225 and I've had it for about 3 years.

E-FLAT AND A KEYS DO NOT WORK.
by: Anonymous

I've had the exact same problem with my E-flats and A-keys on my dxg-203. Initially I thought it was the batteries, but then i plugged it up and still no change. I also removed the batteries just to make sure that they weren't the source of my power as oppose to the A.C. adapter. HEEEEEELP!!!

fixed!!
by: diane

Hi everybody..
I wanna share how i fixed my dgx-230..it sounds fool but i dreamed about the solution for this problem.
You just stand it vertically but the lowest octave is on the bottom..try push the problem key, it will sound okay..then put back like normal(slowly keep pushing the key)..
TRY IT!!

My E & A flat stopped working suddenly
by: DonInFL

I have DGX-205 and all E's & A flat's at and above middle C stopped working. Came here to get a clue before putting it in the shop. I don't believe I have broken or bad contact pads. diane's suggestion doesn't work for me. I replaced pads 8 months ago. I will recheck them. I'm hoping a real solution will get posted.

by: Dessie

My DGX 505 JUST started doing the E flat not working thing...I did it...stood it vertical just for a second hit the key...sound...put it back normal...working like a charm...that is the craziest thing. When I read it, I laughed...but I had to try it! NICE!
