power supply for Yamaha psr-290

by Ginger
(Seneca falls, ny)

I was given this keyboard as a gift, but cannot turn it on. It doesn't seem to have any sort of power cord with it. What is it supposed to be powered by?

Power Adaptor for PSR 290
by: Alfred

Dear Ginger: First, turn the keyboard upside down,
and you should see a Battery Compartment. Open it and remove any old batteries which might still be there! Thoroughly clean the contacts in the compartment. The next thing to do is check Ebay listings for a PA 130 Power Adaptor. This will have an INPUT of 110 to 120 vac, and OUTPUT of 12 vdc 700mAmp. Plug the adaptor into an outlet then turn ON the keyboard and press any key for sound.
Don't be disappointed if you get none. It could mean that the Jack (entry point in the keyboard)is dirty. Clean it out by a short squirt of Electronic Contact Cleaner followed by a gentle cleaning with a Q tip. If you reconnect the Adaptor, turn ON the keyboard and press any key
producing sound from the speakers, you are on your way! The above actions failing, you have to decide whether the cost of repair by a QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN is worthwhile. Good luck!

Yamaha PSR 290

Dear Ginger: This is a followup to my earlier post. You probably have figured outthat the small plug of the Power Adaptor is inserted into the keyboard's rear panel where it says "12vdc". In my haste to help you, I forgot to mention this point. By the way, if my comments helped to start you off to the pleasure of making music, please enter a new post in this Forum so others can learn from your experience. Thank you.
