hi there you don't have to read music to play,i learned to read music when i was a young trumpet player but, if you don,t need reading, forget it,but a good ear for picking up things is important i play [jazz] much faster playing by ear,the good news is there are plenty of good courses[some free] on the net, just type in ''free music lessons''and they are all there,look for one by a man named ''duane''his stuff is very good for beginers,oh!... by the way i am almost 76 yrs' and still doing gigs in hotels and bars etc, it keeps me young,great fun, good look,johnny wilds [ireland] email, east@iol.ie
