Dear Holly: The answer is NO. The Adaptor is for saving the expense of buying batteries. It is in essence a battery eliminator and energizes your keyboard through a separate circuit from the batteries. In keyboards with a memory feature, the Adaptor is safer to use as it stores whatever settings DURING the time you send them there; if you were to use batteries and they die before completion of the storage, all will be lost. If you use your keyboard infrequently, with long periods between use, or if there is a thunder storm brewing, unplug the Adaptor from your outlet. Hope this helps.
