Just to add on to what ESN has said. You can get a USB MIDI cable from Amazon for like 30 bucks (cheapest I've seen it). It's the E-MU EM8780 USB MIDI interface. This is the one I ordered for my YPT-310.

Steinberg software, Roland UA-1EX
by: ESN

Steinberg Nuendo or Steinberg Cubase SX is wonderful software for composing and recording.
(Hypersonic 2 from Steinberg is wonderful VST, as virtual instrument installed on your PC).

I would like to suggest you, using an ASIO compatible soundcard when recording or playing. (example Roland UA-1EX, an affordable and good performance soundcard. It is an external-USB, slim soundcard.). If you're not using ASIO soundcard, there will be an interval (latency, some hundred milisecond) when you touch your keyboard and hear the sound.

As midi interface, you can use a simple MIDI-USB connector.
