Keyboard won't turn on

by Shaun
(Seattle, WA)

I have a Yamaha p-70 and I was playing it two days ago before I moved it down stairs. It's down stairs now, but the darn thing won't turn on. Any suggestions?

power-up problem
by: Dick Rector

Hi Shaun,

The easiest answer would be 'move it back upstairs' but I doubt if that solves the problem.
I am not familiar with you keyboard but,
first: check the wall-power-outlet with a lamp or so, do you have power?
second: check the keyboards powerlead CAREFULLY and unplugged, do you see any damage, copper wires sticking out or VERY sharp bends in it. Replace it if the answer is yes.
Are the wires secure in the plug and at the keyboardside? Is there a power-adapter in this cable (transformer) have it checked by an electrician to see if there is power coming out.
Plug the cable in secure and with the keyboard switched ON move the powerlead from one end to the other. If the keyboard comes on and off the powerlead is broken. Have it replaced or repaired.
NOT by accident a headphone or adapter in the headphones out!!! That switches of the speakers.
If you can't find it this way I am afraid you need a qualified repair-person.
Hope it is a simple thing.

Regards
Dick
