hardly any sound from my Yamaha Clavinova CLP 50

Yamaha Clavinova CLP 50 - electronic section

Hi,

One day, suddenly and without any obvious reasons, my Clavinova CLP 50 lost all sound apart from a very, very faint elongated noise when the volume is set to maximum (as if the right pedal is pressed). I have tried with ear phones, no change. I have tried to use the outline to my amplifier, no change. I have opened the case to see if any fuse needed to be replaced, they are all fine. The interior looks fine to me, no dust, no liquid, nothing to indicate any default. A salesman at the place where I bought the Clavinova, about 12 years ago (Piano Kleber in Luxembourg) told me, after telling them the problem on the phone, that Yamaha doesn't produce the part anymore which causes the problem. I don't believe that, he hadn't seen the piano. I think they just aren't interested into repairing this kind of pianos anymore.
What would be the problem, I am desperate to know as I love the piano.

Thanks very much for your answer. I attach a photograph of the electronic section.

no sound

Hi Barth,

You did the correct tests and from the result and what you tell I am afraid the end-amplifiers on you main-board are gone. Not sure about the story of the dealer but you can try maybe Ebay to find a replacement.
Not much of a help, sorry.

Regards
Dick

I had the same problem and fixed it

I had a CLP-50 with very little sound. I short out one of the leads on the volume pod and I got full volume again. You can also get a new pod.
