converting digital piano to 120 volts

by Karl Kosobucki
(Iasi Romania)

We purchased our Yamaha Clavinova in Germany 5 years ago and are now moving back to the U.S. We see that there is a converter that we can purchase but just want to be sure that long-term use will not somehow damage the piano. What are your thoughts? Thanks for your help.

Converting to 120 V
by: Alfred

Dear Karl: 1) You do not mention the model of your unit. SOME Yanaha pianos MAY have a switch somewhere in the unit which takes care of your problem. Check this out with the place where you bought the piano. 2) If you are talking about the need to use a "special converter" WHICH STEPS DOWN THE AC VOLTAGE TO 120 VAC AND SIMULTANEOUSLY ADJUSTS THE SPECIFIC VOLTAGE PROBABLY (DC)TO SUIT your instrument, you should consider it. 3) Also, it could be that the internal circuitry of the piano automatically converts incoming AC to DC meeting the REQUIRED CURRENT (amperes), in which case you might only need a step-down transformer(from 220 to 120 VAC). Just a few thoughts.
Hope they help. Keep well.

Converting Digital Piano to 120 volts

Dear Karl: Its your turn to help me. First, please confirm that you have been using the European 220 VAC system to power your unit, and that you wantr to use the piano upon your return to the USA. Also, please ignore my comment about Germany where you bought it 5 years ago. Rather, contact --
Yamaha Music Europe GmbH
Siemensstr. 43, D-25462 Rellingen, (b. Hamburg,) Germany

Give them the model number. They are the most reliable source for info. If I haven't confused you, the other comments apply. Don't hesitate to come back to this Forum if you need further clarification.
