Connecting Yamaha PSR S550b to PC for recording.

by Glen
(South Africa)

I have a Yamaha PSR S550b. I would like to record my arrangements into my Sound Forge 9 on my HP Pavilion dv6000. All my investigations seem to lead me in the direction of acquiring a MIDI to USB converter cable (still not sure if this is correct). The problem is, this cable has the USB plug on one end, and two 5-pin DIN plugs on the other. But the S550 has a single stereo output in the back. How do I solve this? And is the MIDI to USB converter cable the answer?

Connecting Yamaha

Unfortunately my pc does not have a "line in" socket. This is why I have to find an alternate solution to my problem.

about recording
by: Joshy A N

Hi dear
,First of all let me ask you at what quality you need to record your arrangements.....If you want your contents to be recorded at high quality(studio quality) you need an external sound card(M audio fast track pro , digidesign Mbox mini etc) .these things are very costly. the other option is ( with less quality but not bad)If your computer is having 'line in' input or auxillary input ( microphone input cannot be used for this purpose, In some systems we can configure the mic input to line in or aux, please do check it out)then you can use a stereo cable to connect your keyboard to pc and can record as real time recording(means simultaneous recording while your keyboard is playing the midi file). Better get audio recording softwares like Neundo ,Cubase etc rather than sound forge....a variety of options are there for recording and editing. You can get the software from the net(free sites are there).

Direct midi cannot be played by the softwares other than your keyboard midi machine as it is.You can record your works only as realtime recording of audio, not midi file....

you can use your key board midi for synthesising using the soft wares which I have told with the help of VST plugins.but this needs midi cable and external sound card with midi interfaces..If you are having any clarifications about this topic ...
