connecting to Midi Devices

by Tej
(Manchester UK)

I have a Yamaha PSR S550 keyboard. I want to connect it to an external Midi device - my Roland sound module so that i can play the sounds on the Roland using the Yamaha keyboard. The Roland has got Midi in/out ports. However, the Yamaha PSR S550 (unlike its predecessor the PSR 550) does not have a Midi out connection. It does have a USB Device connection. I understand the the USB device connection is primarily for connecting memory sticks, but i was wondering, would it be possible to use a USB Midi interface cable, and connect the PSRS550 to the Roland via a USB Midi interface cable with the USB connector going into the "To Device" connection on the PSR S550 and the Midi In connector on the interface cable going into the back of the Roland's Midi In connection? Will this enable me to play the sounds on the Roland directly from teh keyboard without the need to connect to a computer?

Many thanks Thanks
