Compatibility with P200, CakeWake Sonar, Dell Inspiron 1720

I have a P200 and have just purchased a Dell Inspiron 1720 with CakeWalk software and I am trying to midi my keyboard, via USB, into laptop/software.

I notice on the back to the P200 there is an in, an out, and a thru for the midi. The midi cable I have has only the in and out. Could this be the reason I am having difficulty getting software to work?
