CLP 240 Clavionva, MIDI and Macbook Pro

Hi,

I have a yamaha clavinova CLP-240, which i am trying to get to talk to my macbook pro / Garageband via the USB midi connection

The mac & garageband are detecting an instrument, however when i press the keys on the keyboard, i am not getting any noticeable response from garageband.

Are there some drivers i need to install or should they talk automatically...

I also have a tascam 144 and can record through the stereo inputs ok, but I have the same lack of response if itry and use its traditional midi IN/OUT connects
