Choosing between used Yamaha S80 & Roland rd 500

by Fredrika

I have the opportunity to buy either of these used digital pianos for home use: a Yamaha S80 or Roland rd 500. There is a minor price difference between them (both cost ca. $1000); the slightly cheaper Roland includes a carrying case, both include stands and pedals, and seem to be in excellent condition. I live way out of the way in northern Norway, and nothing comes cheap here!

After doing some web browsing, both instruments seem to be very good, maybe even more than I need for hobby playing and children's piano practice. Is there a good reason to choose the Yamaha S80 here?

Piano Sound

I have both RD500 and RD600. The piano sound of these instruments are equal/RD500 better/RD600 comparing Yamaha S80. Yamaha S80 is also a nice instrument. Both instruments would serve you well so you needn't have opted for the more expensive one anyway.

rd500 doesn't have the speakers as well - I think you made the correct decision ;)

Hi,
I did go with the Yamaha and am very satisfied. With weighted keys, it's almost like playing a good quality acoustic piano, and sounds good too. (Of course, I had to buy the extra, active speakers, which I didn't realize beforehand!)
