All keyboards in principle are good for beginners. It is all depending on how serious you are and how much you can spend. The expensive models do exactly the same as the cheaper ones only better, much better sound quality, more advanced techniques and there are a lot more possibilities on them like recording you own performance, loading music from other performers, karaoke playing, sequencing (that is i.e. manipulate the music afterwards on the keyboard or on a computer and so on.
A serious beginner can play VERY quickly some nice songs and my experience is that he or she regrets after a short while not buying a more advanced model with more possibilities.
So the question really is: how serious you want to learn to play and how much can you afford.
I have no relation whatsoever with Yamaha but they have a great selection of good keyboards.
Hope this helps you making a choice.

Keyboard for Beginners by: Alfred
Dear Livingston: Go to a Yamaha Dealer and ask for literature on the PSR E 403 (YPT 400). Study it carefully. This keyboard is exceptionally versatile and is excellent for any beginner. It includes features which should keep pace with any "pangs of regret" you may feel for not buying a more advanced unit. This keyboard was released by Yamaha in 2006 and you should BUY A NEW ONE WITH FULL WARRANTY. Also buy an AC Adaptor to save on cost of batteries. Good luck.
