best keyboard for a beginner

My 14 year old son wants to learn to play the piano. We do not have room for a piano so we are looking for the best keyboard at a reasonable price he can be taught on. He does play the sax so he some knowledge and can read music. What is the difference in a 76 key and a 88 key does it matter which one he gets
